A Lockhart-founded barbecue spot will soon be coming to Houston.
According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Terry Black’s BBQ is set to open next summer at 1311 N. Shepherd Drive, Houston. Construction is set to start Aug. 1 and wrap up by June 1 at a cost of $6.5 million for the nearly 8,500-square-foot space.
With locations in Dallas, Lockhart, Austin, Fort Worth, and Waco, The Heights location is greatly anticipated by barbecue lovers across the state. If you can’t wait until 2026 to get your barbecue fix, there are numerous spots across the Houston area to get your fill.

Recently named No. 9 on Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ Joints for 2025, Truth BBQ was started by Leonard Botello IV in a small shack off of a highway between Austin and Houston in 2015. Today, Truth BBQ has appeared on many “best of” lists, offers classes on the cooking process and sells their products online.
“It’s a big day for BBQ, and an even bigger day for every pit cook, prep cook, cutter, cashier, dishwasher, and busser at all of these BBQ joints in #Texas,” Botello said on Instagram.
The hours of operation depend on when the location sells out of food, so it’s best to go early.
