Claiming that it promoted diversity, equity, and inclusion, acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock removed thousands of businesses owned by women and minorities from the state’s Historically Underutilized Business program designed to help them compete for state contracts.

Calling Dallas his home, Colin Allred on Monday announced his campaign to return to Congress, this time in a primary race that pits him against an incumbent Democrat. Allred, who served in the US House for three terms, announced his run for the 33rd Congressional District in Dallas after dropping out of the US Senate race. He’ll face US Rep. Julie Johnson in the Democratic primary in March.
