The City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management & Crisis Response has announced the launch of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Course. This initiative aims to equip Dallas residents with crucial skills for managing emergencies and disasters.

The training, which is scheduled to take place over several days in November 2024, is free and emphasizes community involvement and preparedness. Here are some more details.

The CERT Basic Training Course will be conducted on three consecutive Saturdays: November 9, 16, and 23. Sessions will start at 8 a.m. at the Dallas Fire-Rescue Training Academy, located at 5000 Dolphin Road, Dallas, TX 75223.

The program includes comprehensive training in disaster preparedness, first aid, fire safety, and light search and rescue operations. On the final day, participants will engage in a hands-on disaster exercise to practice their learned skills.

Residents interested in the course are encouraged to register on the city’s website before the deadline, as spaces are limited. While the current course is conducted in English, dates for a Spanish version will be announced later. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their readiness to assist during emergencies.
