Your unofficial guide to 4/20 in Dallas-Fort Worth

Celebrating 4/20 in DFW? Here's your guide to food, treats, and activities that will have you living the high life.

By Joey Held

April 4, 2025

From elaborate meals and treats to activities that will broaden your horizons, we’ve put together our favorite ways to ring in a DFW 4/20 celebration in style.

There’s a throwaway gag from “The Simpsons” where the family enters a store called Stoner’s Pot Palace to pick up some kitchenware. The bus driver, Otto, is angrily leaving, calling the name “flagrant false advertising.” If you’re like Otto and partaking in 4/20 festivities this year, we’re here to help.

Between restaurants that satisfy even the most magnificent munchies to activities that might help you expand your mind—or at least are fun to look at while high—our 4/20 guide to Dallas-Fort Worth will put you on the right path.

Where to satisfy the munchies

FunkyTown Donuts

132 E 4th St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Get your 4/20 celebration started as early as 7:30 a.m. at FunkyTown Donuts. This Fort Worth gem has a bevy of creative flavors, and the rotating menu items will keep you on your toes. April’s highlights include Double Stuff (with Oreos), Berry Bomb, and even savory options like Samoas and Sausage Rolls. Perhaps the best move is to pick up a ton of donut holes or get a custom order made ahead of time, like this giant donut with a phrase of your choosing that may or may not give you the giggles.

Zalat Pizza

Multiple locations

With 19 locations across Dallas-Fort Worth—though they really should up that to 20 for the purposes of this guide—you won’t be hurting for some creative options from Zalat Pizza. The joint claims to have “the best pizza in the universe,” whether real or imagined. After a few tokes, you might agree that things are out of this world. The Pineapple Express, Pho Shizzle, and Drunken Masterclass are all fantastic items piled high with ingredients. Most of Zalat’s pies come with some kind of topping swirl. It’s a glorious visual anytime and especially when you’re blazed.

El MIL Tacos

4117 Hemphill St, Fort Worth, TX 76110

The comedian Mitch Hedberg has a bit where he notes that rice is great when you’re hungry and want two thousand of something. You can make those rice dreams come true at El MIL Tacos. However, you’ll probably be better off ordering one of the titular tacos or perhaps the Burrito El Ranchero Plate. El MIL also makes this list because it’s located on Hemphill Street, and hemp and marijuana both come from cannabis plants. Finally (and perhaps most importantly), El MIL is open very late. On 4/20 itself, a Sunday, it’s open until 1 a.m. If you’re celebrating all weekend long, you can grab food until 3 a.m. on Friday or 4 a.m. on Saturday.

Snuffer’s

Multiple locations

Serving up burgers from Bedford to Greenville, with another half-dozen locations in between, Snuffer’s is celebrating 47 years in business. You can’t write out “420” without starting with a “47”—go ahead and try writing it down right now. While that connection might be a bit of a stretch, Snuffer’s Cheddar Fries are not. The company went so far as to establish April 20 as “National Cheddar Fries Day” in 2016. It would almost be an insult to the holiday not to indulge.

Dallas Grilled Cheese Co.

5319 E Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75206

A grilled cheese is one of life’s simple pleasures, and Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. is one of the best in the biz. Obviously, the sandwiches here are the stars of the show. They’re all solid choices, though the Grilled Mac ‘N Cheese and The Dude (a cheesy spin on a Sloppy Joe) are exceptional. Don’t count out the other menu items, either—the Bacon Pineapple Lollis and Bruschetta Bites will treat you well. The restaurant also does brunch on Fridays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., so you can add a little elegance to your 4/20 weekend.

Riscky’s BBQ

140 E. Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164

Sitting smack dab in the middle of the Fort Worth Stockyards, Riscky’s has been feeding cattlemen and ranchers since 1927. Now, it’s the stoners’ turn to eat. The beef ribs are hand rubbed in Riscky dust and are all you can eat (when you’re dining in; it would be impractical to have that feature for a to-go order). That means munching until you can’t munch any longer. Save room anyway and head to the nearby Riscky’s Steakhouse. Grab an order of calf fries, which are a fry-teningly good treat.

Dough’d Up

2905 Race St, Fort Worth, TX 76111

Dough’d Up offers mighty fine protein donuts, but the jars of cookie dough are the real deal. One of the side effects of eating too many sugary snacks is the eventual pain that encompasses your body. Dough’d Up creator Madyson Foy avoids that issue by using healthier ingredients. Each jar is packed with oats, is fairly low-sugar, and has a nice bit of protein. And aside from the Cookie Butter, all the cookie dough options are gluten-free. You can endlessly scoop out of the jar without worry.

Stoner’s Pizza Joint

8809 Lakeview Pkwy, Rowlett, TX, 75088

There are Stoner’s Pizzas in several states, which is good since there are also several—and likely many more—stoners living in those states. The Dallas-Fort Worth location is in Rowlett, and with clever items like the Pep-N-Rollie and No Brainer Deluxe, your pizza will be rolled by good hands. You’ll also get a free small pizza after your first order. Getting a gift on a special day like 4/20 is a nice perk.

Activities for your 4/20 celebration

We know what the main 4/20 celebration activity will be. These suggestions are for when you want to elevate the festivities beyond sitting and chowing down on food.

Go eye-to-eye

One of the strangest roadside attractions in Texas, the aptly named “Eye” sits at the center of downtown Dallas. The 30-feet-tall fiberglass sculpture is the perfect eye candy for the Joule Hotel. There’s something oddly soothing about gazing at the vibrant blue iris. You probably won’t win a staring contest, though it’s certainly worth a try.

Watch planes taking off at Founders Plaza

We wouldn’t recommend attempting to fly a plane while partaking in 4/20—or anytime, unless you have a pilot’s license and thousands of hours of training. But Founders Plaza is one of our favorite free things to do in Dallas because of how uniquely cool it is. Bring some food from one of the spots above, settle into a comfy spot on the grass, and marvel at how small and insignificant you seem when a plane soars overhead.

Ride the M-Line Trolley

Deep conversations are often the result of a particularly effective spliff. The free M-Line Trolley, which strolls through the heart of Dallas, is a nice way to chit-chat with someone, assuming they’re also up for the conversation. If you’d prefer to be alone with your thoughts, just enjoy the tour around town and hop off the trolley when you pass by a building that looks like a good time.

Hit up an arcade

What’s better than a weed-enhanced overabundance of flashing lights and wacky sounds? Arcades are a terrific post-high activity; you may get in the perfect zone to finally beat that pinball high score. Fort Worth has a bevy of arcades, and our personal favorite is Electric Starship. Mash a few buttons, flip a few flippers, and indulge in the colorful screens of yesteryear.

See a stoner-riffic movie

This year, Easter also falls on 4/20. Several movies fit the theme of one or the other, so the Fort Worth Rooftop Cinema Club is doing showings for both holidays. Easter celebrants can see a film like “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” while the more hazy visitors can partake in a viewing of “The Big Lebowski” or “This Is the End.”
