WATCH: Houston Dem says GOP is trying to ‘erase’ Black voters

By Staff Reports

August 8, 2025
Houston Democrat Jolanda Jones calls out GOP redistricting efforts as a direct attempt to erase Black voters warning that it’s not just political maneuvering, but a dangerous rollback of hard-won representation.
For decades, Congressional District 18 has been a beacon of Black leadership, held by trailblazers like Barbara Jordan, Mickey Leland, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Sylvester Turner. Now, Jones—an outspoken advocate and native of the district—is stepping up to defend that legacy and ensure the voices of Houston’s Black communities aren’t silenced.
