Texas State Rep. Jolanda Jones joined fellow Texas Democrats in leaving the state on Sunday to break quorum and block the GOP’s redistricting blitz.
She left due to Republicans’ proposed redistricting maps, which she believes threaten Texans’ voting rights and the idea of fair representation.
The newly proposed maps could potentially add 5 Republican US House seats, manipulating district lines and diluting the voting power of Democratic-leaning areas in an effort to maintain the Republican majority in Congress at the expense of Texas voters who’d have less of a say over their everyday lives.
