ABOUT US
At COURIER Texas, our mission is to strengthen communities, rebuild local journalism, and improve access to civic information in the Lone Star State.
We have a modern take on sharing information and telling stories that matter to Texans: We deliver them to you on social media, on our website, and in newsletters delivered straight to your inbox.
The loss of local newspapers across Texas has left too many people without credible information about important issues. In the absence of strong reporting, misinformation spreads. We’re dedicated to stopping misinformation from taking over our state.
Throughout our pages here, in our newsletters, and on our social media accounts, you’ll find stories that lift up the shared experience of living in Texas, along with the information you need to make good choices for yourself and for your family.
We believe fact-based journalism is key to informing Texans—that’s why we place our values right here, up front, so that all readers can see why we do what we do.
Here’s what you should know about us:
- Our reporting will be rooted in facts, science, and the communities our regional newsrooms serve.
- We will strive to tell the truth and will tell you when we get it wrong, because we believe that good information is the lifeblood of democracy, and that democracy will fail when factual journalism is out of reach.
- We will be intentional about centering the voices of the people in our communities, using our platforms to amplify their experiences and opinions, especially those who are most impacted by the issues being decided in Austin and in Washington.
- As a civic news organization, our journalists will focus their reporting around efforts to strengthen communities, rebuild struggling economies, expand access to health care or child care, address the climate crisis, and end inequality in all forms—and covering the leaders championing those efforts. We will be relentless in our coverage of attempts or actions to undermine the will of the people, voting rights, or ballot access, including reporting on the individuals advancing those efforts.
- We will never manufacture “both sides” to our stories, giving equal weight to conspiracy theories or junk science. We will always provide proper context in our reporting to help ensure we don’t continue the spread of misinformation or disinformation.
- We will be committed to holding accountable elected officials or politicians who betray our values, cause harm, or seek to cause harm to the communities we serve.
- We will not use political jargon, but will work to break down inaccessible political language for our audiences.
- We will publish our content where our audiences are; when they move to new platforms or technologies, our brands and journalists will follow.
Launched in 2024, COURIER Texas is dedicated to providing honest, relevant news for and about the Lone Star State. We are extremely proud to call Texas our home, and to do the reporting necessary to ensure that it continues to be a place where future Texans can thrive.

About COURIER
COURIER Texas is owned and operated by COURIER, a pro-democracy news network that is building a more informed, engaged, and representative America by reaching audiences where they are online with factual, values-driven news and analysis at the local and national level.
We reach audiences who are not regularly engaging with civic information, and who are unlikely to subscribe to paywalled journalism. As part of that effort, we deliver much of our reporting on the social platforms our readers use most frequently.
COURIER’s newsrooms practice independent, point-of-view journalism. COURIER is a public benefit corporation owned by Good Information Inc., and is supported by reader contributions, sponsors, philanthropic donations, and corporate underwriting. We maintain an editorial firewall between our newsrooms and underwriters, sponsors, and donors. We do not accept underwriting funding from any national or state political party, party committee, candidate, or campaign.
See COURIER’s website for additional information about our national team and our funding model.
