Power outages remained widespread Wednesday in storm-weary Texas a day after another burst of severe weather flooded streets, uprooted trees, and ripped off roofs. Authorities said a teenager was killed at a construction site while working on a home that collapsed.
The destructive storms caused deaths in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky and were just north of an oppressive, early season heat wave setting records from south Texas to Florida.
An official warned Friday that power outages could last weeks in parts of Houston after thunderstorms with hurricane-force winds tore through the city. The storms knocked out electricity to nearly 1 million homes and businesses in the region, blew out windows on downtown high rises, and flipped vehicles.
