It was the middle of the morning when Foxtrot Market staff asked customers to leave, announcing that they’d be closing ‘forever.’ On April 23, 2024 the company, with locations in D.C., Austin, and flagship city, Chicago, wiped their website and replaced it with a goodbye letter stating, “We explored many avenues to continue the business but found no viable option despite good faith and exhaustive efforts.”

The market filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, which has left about 1,000 employees without work.

Foxtrot opened its Dallas doors in 2019, offering an upscale bodega of sorts with coffee and wine served on site. Four locations later and Foxtrot had become an after work meeting spot, casual brunch option, and refuge for remote workers from their mundane home offices.

Loyal customers have taken to X to discuss their shock over a company that raised almost $200 million in funding just last year.

Employees expressed disappointment too. One sign posted on the window of a Chicago location notes “$180,000 in the hole.”
