From city council seats to mayoral elections, here’s who is headed to a runoff in North Texas.
Election season isn’t quite over. And despite low voter turnout throughout North Texas on May 3, several races are headed to runoffs.
Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming runoffs in North Texas.
What is a runoff?
A race heads to a runoff if one candidate does not receive 50% plus one vote in the general election. In a runoff, the person who receives the most votes wins.
When is the runoff?
The runoff for the May 3 election is June 7.
Early voting began May 27 and runs through June 3. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Dallas and Tarrant counties during early voting.
Election Day is June 7, and polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
What do I need to bring to vote?
Voters are required to bring one of following forms of ID:
- Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Texas election identification certificate issued by DPS
- Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
- Texas handgun license issued by DPS
- US military identification card containing the person’s photograph
- US Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
- US passport
Dallas
In Dallas, two city council seats face a runoff. Lorie Blair and Erik Wilson will face-off in District 8, which covers parts of South Dallas and South Oak Cliff. Bill Roth and Jeff Kitner are vying for the District 11 seat, which covers communities north of Dallas, along Hillcrest and Preston road.

Fort Worth
In Southwest Fort Worth, Mia Hall and Daryl R Davis are headed to runoff over District 6. Hall was the front-runner on May 3 with 47% of votes, while Davis received 28%.

Garland
In Garland, the mayoral race is headed to a runoff.
During the May 3 election, Deborah Morris received 42% percent of the vote, while Dylan Hedrick picked up 33%.
Morris, who has lived in Garland since 1985, has served three terms on the city council, and served as deputy mayor pro tem and mayor pro tem.
Hedrick, who has lived in Garland since 2015, is currently serving his third and final term as a Garland City Council member. Before that, he served on the city planning commission.

Desoto
Two city council districts are headed to a runoff in Desoto. Everett Jackson and Ken Waters are competing to represent District 3, while Wil E. Adams Jr. and Debrah North face-off in District 5.

Mansfield
Melisa Perez and Todd A Simmons are on the ballot in Mansfield, vying for a District 5 seat on the city council. The two candidates had a close race on May 3, with Perez receiving 39% of the votes, and Simmons receiving 35%.

Grand Prairie
In Grand Prairie, Marketta Nimo and John Lopez are headed to runoff over the District 4 seat on the city council. The district includes parts of southwest Grand Prairie.

Irving has ordered a runoff election for the At-Large District 2 seat between David Pfaff and Sergio Porres.

Voters will cast a ballot for Lonnie E. Tipton or Joshua Chanin in Lewisville, as each candidate competes for the District 4 city council seat.

In Rowlett, Pamela Bell will face-off against John P Bowers III for the District 6 city council seat.
