The whole family will enjoy these nine u-pick farms in North Texas that offer fall activities and pick-your-own produce.

Leaves are changing colors, the weather is (almost) starting to get cooler, and we’re fully embracing fall. It’s a season of change—and we can’t help but long for cozy sweaters and hot apple cider and all the things that come with autumn. One of the best parts of harvest season is, well, harvesting! At u-pick farms in North Texas, you can do just that at a beginner-friendly level.

Pick your own flower bouquets, cut pumpkins from the vine, and select produce for all your fall soups at one of these cool spots in Dallas-Fort Worth. Many of these places also offer tons of fall activities for the whole family, like hayrides and corn mazes, as well as farm-made fare to buy and enjoy. Everyone from Grandma to the kids will enjoy these awesome u-pick farms this season.

1. YesterLand Farm Fall Festival

Location: 15410 Interstate 20, Canton

Dates: Sept. 20-Nov. 2

Price: $36.95 (2 and under free)

Walking into YesterLand Farm in the fall is like a scene out of “Halloweentown.” The whole place is decorated with pumpkins, skeletons, and more, with tons of roller coasters, spooky-themed food, and autumn activities, including a cool corn maze. Of course, the u-pick part is our favorite.

For those who visit in September only, you can enjoy a special fall activity: picking your own sunflowers and zinnias! The beautiful flower field has larger-than-life sunflowers and colorful zinnias for you to pick and take home for an additional charge. Throughout the fall festival, you can also pick out your own pumpkin to take home.

2. Alford Family Farm

Location: 199 Private Road 6181, Emory

Dates: Varies, usually November-January

Price: Varies

As the weather turns cooler, pecans become ready to pick at Alford Family Farm. With 370 mature pecan trees on each side of the farm’s u-pick orchards (which are worth returning to in the summer), you can pick Desirable, Choctaw, Pawnee, and native pecans.

According to the farm, they begin harvesting in October and will be ready for you to pick them sometime in November or December, and sometimes as late as January. They also periodically offer u-pick options in other seasonal produce. (Check their website for more up-to-date information.)

3. Blase Family Farms

Location: 1232 East Fork, Rockwall

Dates: Sept. 20-Nov. 2

Price: $11 (under 2 free)

Blase Family Farms has some of the most picturesque backdrops for photos, with haybales, forests, and pretty painted signs. My kids love coming here and checking out the petting zoo and running along the hay maze, and the whole family loves picking pumpkins (for an extra charge).

In addition to the pumpkins, you can also pick out your own straw bales, which are perfect for fall decorating. Afterward, grab some homemade fudge or go on a hayride and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. This truly is one of the best all-around autumn farms to visit in the area.
