Have you ever chowed down on something so American like a cheeseburger or chicken tenders and thought to yourself: “This is good, but I almost want it to be a little more unique?”
If so, make sure to hop on over to the collaboration event between ChòpnBlọk and Trill Burgers on Oct. 23, hosted at 3607 S. Shepherd Drive, Houston from 9-11 p.m. This is the second event between the two restaurants, with the previous one happening earlier this month.
Though the pairing might seem strange, the history between the restaurants runs deep. The owners first met at Rice University, where Trill Burger owner and Houston hip-hop legend Bun B was teaching a course called “Religion and Hip Hop Culture.” ChòpnBlọk head chef Ope Amosu took the class as part of his MBA, and the rest, as they say, is history.
“First and foremost, it’s a way for us to bridge the gap within the African diaspora, which is important to us and part of our overall mission,” Amosu told Eater Houston. “Given Bun and my history as professor and student at Rice University, it’s cool to be able to come back together and put on for the city.”
Visitors of the event can expect a DJ, exclusive merch, slabs, and custom grillz. Of course, the main event will be the collab menu, which will feature West African-spins on classic burgers and chicken tenders. The best part? No reservations are required.
Though both restaurants have only popped up in the past five years, their recognitions speak for themselves and how the eateries became Houston staples. Trill Burgers was picked as the best burger in America by Good Morning America in 2022, and ChòpnBlọk was recently named as one of the New York Times 50 Best Restaurants.
