You’ve heard of the yummy dishes you can get at prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants (and maybe you’ve even trotted out the fun fact that the tire people are the ones who give those stars out), but have you ever heard of a Michelin Key?

Up until recently, I would have responded with a “Nope!” But when I saw the news that a local Houston hotel was the only property in Texas to be awarded a key this year, I was intrigued. The Hotel Saint Augustine is one of many luxury hotels on the list that recognizes outstanding hotels.

“After selecting thousands of hotels worldwide, it is our privilege to specially highlight the crème de la crème of our selection,” the Michelin website states. “All MICHELIN Guide hotels excel in design, architecture, service, and personality—the MICHELIN Key denotes the most outstanding experiences in our selection.”

Michelin Key distinctions are chosen from previously recommended hotels that are included in the Michelin Guide. While other Texas hotels have been awarded keys in the past, Hotel Saint Augustine was the only new Texas property chosen this year.

“Both our design forward ethos, and Bunkhouse Hotels’ commitment to offering our guests an immersion into the local culture really set us apart,” General Manager Omar Abreu told COURIER HTX. “Our proximity to world-class art institutions is also quite unique to our guest experience.”

The hotel features 71 hotel rooms and suites, the Aaron Bludorn helmed-restaurant Perseid, a small event space, an intimate lobby bar and a cloistered circular courtyard pool. If you’re interested in booking a stay, make sure to start planning your trip ahead of time, as Abreu mentioned that reservations are spiking.

“We’re already seeing a surge in inquiries since the announcement and we look forward to welcoming new guests into our spaces in the coming months,” he said.
