If driving to the polls or finding parking is your main hangup from casting a ballot early in this year’s elections, you officially have no excuse now.

Transit authorities across Houston are offering free rides to the polls during the early voting period (which lasts until Oct. 31) and on Election Day (which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 4 this year). The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is offering free roundtrip rides to Houstonians looking to cast their vote.

To redeem the free ride, passengers must “show their voter ID or other approved documentation to the operator or fare inspector,” according to a METRO press release. Riders can pick from the local bus, METRORail, curb2curb, and METROLift as a transportation method.

Early voting times and dates:

  • Monday through Saturday: 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon–7 p.m.
  • Election Day: 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

Along with the 17 statewide propositions that are on every Texans ballot, Houstonians will also get to vote for the 18th Congressional District seat that has sat vacant for almost eight months since the death of Sylvestor Turner. There are currently 16 candidates on the ballot.

Other elections include various school board positions and bond elections, as well as a seat on Houston City Council.
