One week of early voting is in the books for Harris County, and the unofficial numbers have fallen short compared to past years. The good news is that Houstonians still have until Friday to cast their ballot before Election Day.
Early voting in Texas started Oct. 20. According to unofficial reports posted by the Harris County Clerk’s Office, approximately 74,454 voters showed up for early voting in Harris County. In terms of Ballot By Mail votes, the county unofficially reported 5,191 votes.
Early voting week one numbers:
- 10/20: 10,701
- 10/21: 11,074
- 10/22: 11,586
- 10/23: 11,427
- 10/24: 14,383
- 10/25: 9,130
- 10/26: 6,153
When looking at numbers from 2023, the last election year that was not a presidential election year, voter turnout was higher every day when compared to 2025. In terms of total numbers, the first week of 2023 early voting turnout had 91,672 votes.

- 10/24: 14,408
- 10/25: 14,551
- 10/26: 12,737
- 10/27: 17,488
- 10/28: 12,063
- 10/29: 7,688
There are 17 statewide propositions that are on every Texan’s ballot, including bail reform, inheritance tax ban, and funding for dementia research and prevention.
Houstonians will also get to decide who takes the 18th Congressional District seat that has sat vacant for almost eight months since the death of Sylvestor Turner. There are currently 16 candidates on the ballot. More information on the candidates can be found here.
This election is especially important, as Democrats could stand to take back the House majority before midterms next year.
