The Houston Astros are looking to add another championship to the franchise’s accolades, and they’re doing a ton of fun promo giveaways along the way.
Another baseball season is underway! Attending a Houston Astros game is always a blast. From the crack of the bat to the endless snacks to singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch, there are plenty of good times to be had.
There’s also a lot of cool merch and giveaways. Throughout the season, the Astros run promotions for fans in attendance. These promotions typically include one or more limited-edition items that you can take home as a bonus souvenir.
With 81 home games on the schedule, not all giveaways are created equal. We’ve dug through everything to find this season’s best Houston Astros promos.
April 17: Carlos Correa City Connect Jersey
Carlos Correa won a World Series with the Astros in 2017 and was a mainstay at shortstop for several seasons. He joined the Minnesota Twins for a few years but got traded back to Houston last July. He’s a fan favorite among Astros fans, and the first 10,000 attendees will get his limited-edition jersey to rock proudly. This promo also coincides with a First Bud Friday night—$5 Budweisers on draft with a live DJ at the Michelob Ultra Bar—alongside a postgame fireworks display and “Faith & Family Night” service.
May 12: Care Bears Night
The Care Bears bring a regular dose of sparkles and sunshine, and you can take that feeling home with you by snagging a Care Bears bobblehead. It’s a pretty sweet design, with Champ Bear casually relaxing on top of an Astros baseball. This promo item is an additional purchase of $49.50 and requires a ticket to the game, but for fans of the Care Bears, it’s an excellent way to boost your collection.
May 16: Rodeo Street Fest
We’re all about Houston Astros promos that combine multiple things, and May 16 is a jam-packed evening at the ballpark. Daikin Park is hosting the first-ever Rodeo Street Fest, with several experiences throughout the park embracing the spirit of the Texas Rodeo. The first 10,000 fans will also take home a stylish Astros cowboy baseball hat, which is a hybrid creation you never knew you needed. For good measure, it’s also Armed Forces Night, with the park honoring members of the military branch.
May 30: Star Wars Night
May the fourth … er, the 30th be with you! Dress up in Star Wars gear—yes, you can wear masks and bring toy lightsabers—and meet iconic characters from the franchise. You don’t even need to travel to a galaxy far, far away to make it happen. The die-hards can purchase an add-on to get a Carlos Correa Mandalorian & Grogu bobblehead. If you’re among the first 10,000 in attendance, you’ll also get an Astros gym bag. That’s not really related to Star Wars (although Tatooine probably had a few saunas scattered about), but it’s a nice way to hold all your goodies throughout the evening.
June 3: Pride Night
Houston’s LGBTQIA community has several fantastic Pride Month celebrations, and the vibes at Daikin Park are no exception. The first 10,000 fans will score an Astros Pride Flag upon entry, and for enthusiasts of a good crossover episode (or just a crossover), there’s an extra add-on for a Pride basketball jersey. The jersey’s name is “Pride” with the number 26. There’s never been an NBA player with that last name—though we will shout out Charles Pride in the G League—but it’s a wonderful addition to the wardrobe either way.
June 5: Orbit’s Birthday
Orbit was the Astros’ mascot from 1990 through 1999, taking a hiatus before a glorious return in November 2012. Now, we celebrate Orbit’s birthday every summer. This year’s bash is extra special. It’s on a Friday, so there’s a First Bud Friday and a postgame fireworks display. Beyond that, the first 10,000 fans will get a glow-in-the-dark Orbit jersey, and you can pair those sweet threads with an Orbit-themed beanie add-on. It’s truly out of this world!
June 16: Peanuts Night
Good grief! Everyone’s favorite beagle and his blockhead owner will be in town as the Peanuts gang takes over Daikin Park. Snoopy and Co. will have plenty of interactive photo ops. If you’ve ever thought Charlie Brown was a fashion icon, you can make an add-on purchase to get a stylized Astros jersey. And we promise no one will pull a football away from you.
June 20: Barbie Game Day
Put on your pink and head to the ballpark for a glamorous day of Barbie fun. From step-and-repeat photo opportunities to Barbie macarons, it’s a jubilant celebration of everyone’s favorite doll. Get an extra souvenir with a Barbie sherpa bag add-on purchase. Alas, this won’t be nearly as global an event as Barbenheimer, the blockbuster event that paired the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” movies. We suppose you could talk with someone about the atomic bomb and relive that summer, or maybe just take a spin in Barbie’s Dream Convertible.
June 30: SpongeBob SquarePants Night
He lives in a pineapple under the sea, but SpongeBob SquarePants is making the journey to Daikin Park for a little baseball action. There will be nods to Bikini Bottom and its classic characters throughout the park. As a bonus, it’s Dollar Dog Night. While you can’t get a Krabby Patty, a $1 hot dog is still great. The add-on of this game is one of the loudest shirts you’ll ever see, a Patrick Star one-of-a-kind collectible jersey. You will absolutely turn heads anywhere you wear it.
July 18: Christmas in July
For those who become giddy when Mariah Carey gets unthawed each year, Christmas in July is the most wonderful time of the (Astros) year. The whole ballpark is decked out in holiday décor, and you’ll get several opportunities for family pictures to use on your Christmas cards. Purchase an add-on of an Astros ugly Christmas sweater, and you’ll be the belle of the ball at your next White Elephant party.
August 2: Pilates in the Park
Baseball games can get some people awfully worked up, so why not unwind with a little postgame Pilates? After this one wraps up, fans who have purchased the Pilates add-on will head to the outfield grass to partake in a 45-minute session led by a professional Pilates instructor. All are welcome, whether you’re a seasoned Pilates professional or don’t know your C-curve from your imprint. Participants will also take home an Astros Pilates towel.
August 4: Harry Potter Night
Yer a wizard, Harry! The magic is in full force during Harry Potter Night, where fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters. Bonus points for a wildly obscure one, like Griselda Marchbanks or Dedalus Diggle. Bring your wand, toss out a few “Wingardium Leviosa” spells, and pretend the baseball game you’re watching is actually Quidditch—a feat much easier to accomplish if you purchase the add-on Quidditch jersey.
August 22-23: Dog Day
How fitting that this pair of dog days is smack dab in the dog days of summer. Pooches and their owners get to sit in special sections with access to unique areas like the “Barking Room Only” and Dog Zone. The first 500 dogs will receive an Astros dog toy, too, a perfect reward for the very good boys and girls in attendance. While decking your dog in clothing is not required, it is quite cute.
September 18-20: Hispanic Heritage Weekend
It’s a weekend “filled with música, cultura, sabor … and Astros baseball!” Hard to ask for more than that, isn’t it? Hispanic Heritage Weekend runs from Friday to Sunday, with different themed activities each night. For instance, Friday’s postgame fireworks will feature a Latin mix. On Saturday, the Hispanic Heritage Street Festival will sport Latin music, performers, face-painters, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities that embrace Hispanic culture.
Every Sunday Afternoon: Kids Run the Bases
One of the very first baseball games I ever went to was in Cincinnati to watch the Reds play. The whole family went, and my mom secured a ticket for me to run the bases. This happened approximately 25 years ago, and I still remember it fondly. The Astros offer the same kind of magical memory for kids 5-12 every Sunday afternoon game. Astros Buddies Club members get first dibs to touch ‘em all, though general public tickets are also welcome. My best piece of advice: Take your time rounding the bases. I was sprinting like I was trying to leg out an inside-the-park home run. It’s much better to admire the surroundings around you.
Tips for getting Houston Astros promos at the game
Picked out the game (or games) you want to attend? Here are a few tips to make sure you walk out with your Houston Astros promo item.
- Get there early: Unless otherwise specified, gates open two hours before game time. You probably don’t need to be that early for most giveaways, but arriving an hour to 90 minutes before first pitch is a good plan.
- Check multiple gates: The home plate gate usually runs out of promotional items first, while left and center field tend to hang onto their supply longer because fewer people enter through those gates. Ask a gate attendant if they still have the item before you get your ticket scanned. You typically can’t receive it from a different gate once you’re already in the park.
- Make sure your ticket covers the promotional item: Some items are available to the first 10,000 fans. Others require an add-on purchase and are handed out at a specific location within the park. In the case of the latter, make sure you’ve also purchased the add-on, or you’ll be mighty disappointed come gameday.
- Don’t be afraid to trade: Suppose you miss out on the item at the gates for whatever reason. In that case, you’ll need to barter with someone for their item. I have visited two-thirds of the stadiums across MLB and have been on both sides of this scenario. Once, a fan asked if she could buy the promotional item from me (a limited-edition hat) to give to her grandson. At another park, my friend and I didn’t get the promo item because the game had been moved up to beat an incoming thunderstorm, and we arrived too late. After the game, we went to a nearby pub and saw people wearing the opposing team’s jerseys walking by with the promo items. We asked if they’d give us theirs, and they obliged. The lesson: It never hurts to ask!
