Christmas came early this year! Well, at least it did in the ice cream aisle. Brenham-based Blue Bell announced on Instagram that its Christmas Cookies flavor is available for purchase in half-gallon sizes as of October 22. The caption for the post read, in part, “No need to wait on Santa. Our Christmas Cookies Ice Cream arrives in stores beginning today!”
The tasty treat combines sugar cookie-flavored ice cream with sugar, snickerdoodle, and chocolate chip cookies, green icing swirls, and red sprinkles. It definitely seems geared toward those who have a particularly strong sweet tooth, and understandably so. Commenters on social media expressed excitement over the flavor already being stocked in freezers across Texas.

One Blue Bell fan wrote, “Yay! I have been watching your page for about a month!! I live in California and we don’t get your delicious ice cream here. My dad lives in Texas and brings me Christmas Cookie ice cream every Thanksgiving when he drives out here. We try to only eat 1 scoop at a time to make it last. Last time we only made it February haaa. Happy Holidays!”
She’s not the only one whose family scoops up (pun intended!) Blue Bell’s Christmas Cookies ice cream during its limited-time run. Another commenter noted, “Grab it while you can. I work for Kroger and last year it was gone by Thanksgiving. Maybe they will order more this year.”
In previous years, Blue Bell has released the flavor in October or November, depending on the holiday lineup. Last year, Peppermint was the first flavored to be restocked in November, followed by Christmas Cookies a couple days afterward. It’s looking like Peppermint is making its comeback today and will, hopefully, be followed swiftly by Peppermint Bark. Other potential flavors may include Spiced Pumpkin Pecan and Eggnog.
Christmas Cookies, and all additional holiday flavors, will be available for a limited time only.
Blue Bell has a host of holiday-inspired recipes
If you want to spice up your holiday dessert menu beyond simply serving ice cream in bowls, Blue Bell has you covered there, too. Listed on the Texas-based company’s website is an array of recipes incorporating beloved ice cream flavors like Peppermint Bark, Eggnog, Peppermint, and Lime Sherbert.
A few are slightly more complicated to make than others, so choose accordingly when narrowing down your options. The Peppermint Affogato is pretty straightforward—all you need is Blue Bell’s Peppermint ice cream and your favorite hot coffee and you’re good to go. Others, like the Sherbert Punch and the Peppermint Ice Cream Reindeer Bonbons require a few extra ingredients from the store.
And if you’re not in the mood for anything holiday-related, Blue Bell has numerous other featured flavors that’ll stay in the frozen food aisle for their own limited runs. Current offerings include Chocolate Lava Cake, Black Raspberry Fudge, Black Walnut, Oatmeal Cream Pie, and Rum Raisin.
