Summer is often a difficult time for families who rely on free school lunch programs. With the current cost of living, it can be hard to make ends meet and keep everyone well fed. Thankfully, several Texas school districts are providing nutritious breakfasts and lunches throughout the summer to help bridge this gap.
Meals will be provided free of charge to children of all ages and to all teenagers who are 18 years of age and younger. You do not need to present a school ID or register in advance to receive most of these meals—all you have to do is show up at specific locations during the designated free breakfast and lunch hours, which we’ll go over with you below.
McKinney ISD’s Student Nutrition District Manager, James Shoemake, put it best when he said, “Good nutrition shouldn’t take a summer break.” His district is providing meals through the SUN Meals program operated by the US Department of Agriculture. Shoemake added, “SUN Meals makes it easy for our community’s children to stay fueled and focused throughout the summer.”
Here’s where you can go to make sure your own children are fueled, focused, and fed all summer long:
Dallas ISD
Dallas ISD is taking a unique approach to the free summer meal program—they’re delivering the meals directly to students via its Summer Food Bus Tour 2026. These free meals are available for children who are 18 years of age and younger, and for anyone up to 21 years old who has a disability, per Dallas ISD’s official announcement.
Meals will be served between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and they must be eaten on-site. Here’s when and where the Summer Food Bus Tour is going to stop:

- Tuesday, June 9 at Charles A. Gill Elementary School on 10910 Ferguson Rd.
- Wednesday, June 10 at Albert C. Black STEAM Academy on 4200 Bonnie View Rd.
- Thursday, June 11 at César Chávez Learning Center on 1710 N Carroll Ave.
- Tuesday, June 16 at L. O. Donald Elementary School on 1218 Phinney Ave.

Fort Worth ISD
From now until July 2, Fort Worth ISD will be offering free breakfasts and lunches to every child in Fort Worth who’s under 18 years of age. Meals are available even if your child is not enrolled in a Fort Worth school. They’ll be served Monday through Thursday on select campuses throughout the area, including:

Breakfast is served at the elementary school campuses from 7:40 a.m. until 8 a.m., and lunch is served there between 12:05 p.m. and 12:35 p.m.
Breakfast is served at middle school campuses from 7:50 a.m. until 8:15 a.m., and lunch is served there from 12:40 p.m. until 1:10 p.m.
Breakfast is served at high school campuses from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m., and lunch is served there from 11:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Houston ISD
Houston ISD is also participating in the Summer Meals Program and will be serving up free breakfasts and lunches to all children who are 18 years of age and younger, regardless of their school enrollment status. Meals will be served from June 10 through July 17. Services will not be provided on June 19, July 2, and July 3 due to holiday observation.
At every location, breakfast is served between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Lunch is served at most locations between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., though some may operate under different hours. McKinney ISD
Both Faubion Middle School, located at 2000 Rollins St. in McKinney, and Lawson Early Childhood, located at 500 Dowell St. in McKinney, will be serving free breakfast and/or lunch on the following days and times:
- June 1 through July 24, Monday through Friday – Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Faubion MS)
- June 1 through June 23, Monday through Friday – Breakfast from 7:20 a.m. until 8 a.m., and lunch from 10:45 a.m. until 12 p.m. (Lawson EC)

Grand Prairie ISD
Grand Prairie ISD’s press release announcing its free summer meal programs stated, “With nearly 2 million food insecure children living in Texas, these healthy meals are vital to nourishing young Texans during the summer vacation.”
Breakfast will be served at these locations Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the following dates:

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will be serving free breakfast and lunch at Cross Timbers Middle School, located at 2301 Pool Road in Grapevine, from May 26 through July 30. Please note that this site is closed on June 19 and July 4, and that all meals must be eaten on the premises. To-go meals are not provided.
Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. until 8:30 a.m., and lunch is served from 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.
San Antonio ISD
Through the “Seamless Summer Nutrition Program” run by the Texas Department of Agriculture, San Antonio ISD is providing free, nutritious meals to children up to 18 years of age. Additionally, breakfast and lunch will be served to students who are older than 18 but younger than 21 years of age who are currently enrolled in school and are identified as being disabled through local special education programs. Serving times vary by site, but Fox SA notes that breakfast is typically served around 7:30 a.m. and lunch starts as early as 10:30 a.m. in some locations. Wichita Falls ISD, Lawton Public Schools, Duncan Public Schools, Permian Basin, and more
The Wichita Falls ISD, Lawton Public Schools, Duncan Public Schools, Permian Basin, and others are participating in the no cost summer meals program. We’re going to provide you with some helpful links to get all the information you need for those specific districts, but you can also manually search for free meals nearby using the Summer Meal Site Map found here, as well as the USDA’s interactive site accessible through this link.
Wichita Falls ISD, Lawton Public Schools, and Duncan Public Schools information can be found here. Meals in all three areas are provided to children and teenagers who are 18 years of age and younger. No enrollment is required to receive free breakfast and lunch.
