Since country music legend Dolly Parton passed away on August 25, tributes honoring the mega star have been pouring in from across the globe. From billboards to bouquets of flowers to concert shout outs, Parton has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds over the last few weeks. One of those people is MAiZE’s founder Brett Herbst.
Herbst and his company consult on corn maze design and construction for clients throughout the US. One of MAiZE’s most recent projects was to help put together a massive tribute to Parton at Rockin’ K Farms in Robstown. Now, the Texas farm is home to a sprawling corn maze designed to look like the “Jolene” singer (take a gander here).
Herbst said of the now-viral design, “We are beyond humbled to honor Dolly’s legacy, joining the world in mourning the passing of a true American treasure. Dolly’s impact on the world and her love for farming is immeasurable, and our corn maze tributes now take on new meaning and significance.”
The design of Robstown’s corn maze shows Parton alongside a butterfly and a guitar, both of which held significance for the Tennessee native. In addition to being able to make their way through the maze, visitors at Rockin’ K Farms will have the chance to collect clues and play a game of trivia based around the Queen of Country’s life and career.
Rockin’ K Farms is operating its Dolly corn maze from September 26 through November 7. Entry is included in the price of regular admission to the farm, which costs $19.61 per person. Tickets can be purchased at this link prior to your visit. Rockin’ K is open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. It closes at 5 p.m. on October 31.
The maze pays tribute to Dolly Parton’s literacy achievements
The Dolly Parton corn maze at Rockin’ K Farms does more than provide a fun nod to the country singer’s legacy—it also helps raise money for Parton’s Imagination Library. A portion of the money made from ticket sales will go toward the nonprofit program, which gives free books to kids around the world from infancy through five years of age.
Speaking about her desire to start the program, Parton previously wrote on the organization’s website, “When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”
Prior to her death, Parton had expressed support for the numerous corn mazes being designed across the country bearing her, and other music legend’s, likenesses. She said, “I’m grateful for the support of my Imagination Library and am excited to invite people out to get lost in this year’s country music corn maze for a little fun, laughter, and a real good reason to get lost.”
