Advocates urge $4.5M investment in crisis, violence & intervention programs

Community, faith, and civil‑rights leaders including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Texas are urging the Harris County Commissioners Court to fund crisis response, violence interruption, and domestic‑violence prevention ahead of the Sept. 8 budget amendment deadline. The request centers on three county programs: the Holistic Assistance Response Team (HART), RISE violence interruption, and the county’s domestic‑violence prevention and intervention work. A new report shows these programs save lives, money, and time, and leaders say the county must expand them and adopt all recommendations, including creating an independent Department of Community Safety.
