Campaign cash loophole: council members fear Houston’s proposed law change

Council Member Edward Pollard explains that a 2022 Supreme Court ruling found caps on campaign‑finance loan repayments unconstitutional, calling them a violation of First Amendment free‑speech protections. Houston still has an older local ordinance that conflicts with that ruling, and Proposition A would repeal it to bring the city’s rules in line with federal law. Pollard says he’s asking for support to ensure Houston’s ordinances remain legally consistent.
