City unveils Joe Ramirez Boulevard after Cesar Chavez renaming

Joe E.Ramirez Boulevard officially joins Houston’s landscape today, honoring his sacrifice, his service, and the community he never stopped supporting.

After months of public debate over scrutiny of Cesar Chavez, city leaders voted to rename the boulevard for longtime community advocate and Korean War veteran Joe Ramirez. His family says they’re “so proud” to see the city honor a man who enlisted at 18, was shot at 19, survived more than three years as a prisoner of war, returned to service, and later spent decades giving back to his neighbors.
