Houston City Council approves $7.5 billion budget in 15-1 Vote

The Houston City Council has approved Mayor John Whitmire’s $7.5 billion budget in a 15-1 vote.

The spending plan includes a new $5 monthly trash fee expected to generate about $24 million annually to help address the city’s financial challenges.

The budget takes effect at the start of the next fiscal year. Council Member Edward Pollard of District J cast the lone vote against the measure.
