I need to admit something— I was today-years-old when I found out that the cartoon “King of the Hill” is set in North Texas. Don’t worry, I feel adequately ashamed.

Since the show premiered in 1997, it depicted the fictional town of Arlen, inspired by the co-creator’s time living in Richardson and Arlington. The show ended in 2010 after 13 seasons and then made a comeback last year. Now, after the premiere of season 15 last week, the sitcom is top of mind again, with references to Whataburger, Big Tex, and UT Dallas in the premiere episode.

A writer at Texas Monthly called the show the “most significant work of Texan culture of the past 30 years.” Woah, that’s a big statement! Do you agree?

I can’t say I’ve watched enough episodes, start to finish, to make a real judgment, but I’d love to know what you think. If “King of the Hill” isn’t our great cultural representative, is there another show or movie that is? Write in and let me know.

State Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin) on Thursday called on Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to impose a data center moratorium in Texas.

“ He has the unique ability to issue a moratorium until the legislature can meet,” Hinojosa said at a press conference. “ He has the sole unique authority to issue an emergency executive order and call a special session of the legislature to take action to bring relief to Texans now. I am calling on him to do it. There is nowhere to hide, this problem is in his lap and in his lap alone.”

Hinojosa will face Abbott in the general election for governor in November at a time when it’s becoming increasingly clear that Texas’ artificial intelligence data center boom is an issue driving voters to the ballot box. 

“ For the last three years, we have been under siege, we have been ignored,” Tom Weeks, a Granbury resident said during the press conference. “I have had high blood pressure issues, I had a pulmonary embolism in July of 2024 and nearly died. I was bedridden for over six months and had to sit here and listen to this Bitcoin mine, Marathon Bitcoin, scream across my property day and night. My wife and I are sleep-deprived. I think most of my neighbors are sleep-deprived.” 

Across all age groups, Americans are spending less time socializing than we did 20 years ago, and, surprisingly, the steepest decline is seen in 15-24-year-olds. Why the increased isolation? A recent report suggests remote work, smart phones, and homes with more luxuries are to blame.

Have you ever tried goat yoga? It’s become popular across the US over the last decade. It might sound slightly crazy, but I recently decided to give it a try as my first ever yoga experience. As someone who has recently gotten into fitness, I thought it would be a great way to be able to stretch and relax my muscles. Goat yoga is offered as a way for people to reduce stress and relax. I personally saw it as a fun way to be introduced to yoga. 

Goat Yoga Dallas is a wellness program that offers you the opportunity to take classes all around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Classes take place on Saturdays and Sundays and times vary. The classes are an hour long. The cost is $38.95 for adults and $25 for children ages 5-12.

My class was hosted at Hardwood Park in Dallas. When I first got there I was directed to fill out a waiver. From there, they had a table with towels and water available to you to have before entering the gated area with the goats. You can then interact and grab photos with the goats before class starts.

There were times, during different poses, where the goats would squeeze through my legs if they found the space. They were all very friendly and enjoyed getting petted and picked up. It was hard not to get distracted when they are constantly making their rounds and approaching you. They were actually quiet, so I was able to easily listen to the instructor during the class.   

Would I go back again? I’d say absolutely yes, but preferably on a cooler day. Goat Yoga Dallas offers classes year-round and at different locations throughout DFW. During different holidays, you’ll even find them dressed up in costumes, making it an even more memorable experience.
