If you’re looking for a new business to support this weekend, let me bring this story out of Garland to your attention.

When La Esquinita Panaderia y Taqueria was preparing to open its doors this month, the owners sent their landlord a rendering of a mural they wanted to install on the wall outside. The owners were under the impression that the mural had been approved, and they commissioned a well-known DFW artist to paint it. When it was done—a brightly colored depiction of the Virgin of Guadalupe—the landlords told the owners to paint over it.

There have been no further comments from the property owners about why they disapprove of the mural, but the business wants to prove it won’t deter customers; it will welcome them, making money that leaves a thriving business and a lease paid.
