Last year, DFW political reporter Katie Serrano and I visited three well-loved but very different pizza spots across the metro and were pleasantly surprised with all of our experiences.
First, there was Kabylo’s Pizza in North Richland Hills. This might be the closest North Texans are getting to New York City pizza. The subway-tiled shop had quite a few delicious-sounding combos, but we opted for the chicken parmesan pizza and were not disappointed. Our meal even included an epic cheese pull.
Then we headed to Dallas to Mister 01Extraordinary Pizza to try their star-shaped pizza. If you’d appreciate an easy way to dip your crust, you’ll love this style. We ordered the Star Luca, which had ricotta and Calabrian spicy salami and really enjoyed that. You can also visit Mister 01 locations in Mansfield, Flower Mound, Fort Worth, and Grapevine.
Last, we traveled to Garland for New Haven-style pizza at Fortunate Son. We ordered a prosciutto and arugula pizza that had complex flavors and just gave a 5-star experience. Customers coming in and out were so passionate about the pizza that one guy even offered to give us a slice of his order so we could try something else.
