Whether it’s Black History Month or any other time of year, supporting Black-owned businesses is a great way to put money directly into the hands of entrepreneurs who have historically faced workplace disadvantages. You also boost your local economy, so it’s a solid boon for everyone.
We in San Antonio are lucky to have many Black-owned businesses to choose from, including restaurants, bakeries, and even a dance school. That said, we know folks are busy, so we’ve done the research for you and gathered 10 great businesses that you can—and should—support in 2026 and beyond. You may just find your next favorite sweet treat, slice of ‘za, or event planner.
1. Tank’s Pizza
Address: 902 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, TX 78202
After a day of finding things to do in San Antonio that are off the beaten path, you need to refuel, and that’s where Tank’s Pizza comes in. This restaurant is rooted in community, and it’s been centering its customers since it opened its doors in 2011. The Tank’s Pizza website even mentions that its employees work hard to remember customers’ names so they always feel like family.
Tank’s Pizza slices up all of your favorite pie flavors, from meat-packed ones to those full of fresh veggies. It goes beyond that, too, serving up baked pastas, meatball sliders, and crisp salads. Ultimately, if you’re looking for a restaurant where you can sit and gab with friends or family with some divine grub, this is your new favorite spot.
2. Southern Roots Vegan Bakery
Address: N/A
It’s no secret that folks who follow vegan lifestyles have a hard time finding baked goods that don’t contain any animal products, including eggs, milk, and butter. But that’s where San Antonio’s Southern Roots Vegan Bakery comes in. This is one of the best Black-owned businesses to support if you want to help vegan folks in the area—and nationwide—continue having delicious sweet-treat options.
Rather than run a storefront, Southern Roots operated purely on delivery and shipping. If you’re in San Antonio, you can get free local delivery, but don’t worry if you’re not—free shipping is available for folks across the U.S. Cakes, cookies, and cake donuts are available to all customers, but do note that pies (options include apple, pumpkin, and sweet potato) are only available to local customers. Southern Roots only began in 2018, so it’s relatively new, and your support could mean it lasts for a while to come.

3. Sweet Yams
Address: 218 N Cherry St, San Antonio, TX 78202
If you’re vegan in San Antonio, you have another excellent option for tantalizing food. Sweet Yams is another of the great Black-owned businesses that has vegan, as well as gluten-free, offerings on its menu. The Kale Salad and Mushroom Burger are highly rated, and the gluten-free Sweet Potato Cupcake is delicate yet lovely with each bite.
Other standout menu items include the BBQ Chicken Po’Boy, Texas Turkey Chili, and Salmon Filets that come in myriad flavors, like blackened, sesame ginger, and lemon pepper. No matter which you choose, though, you’ll leave here full and gleeful.
4. A New Day Pediatric Psychology
Address: 16607 Blanco Rd #1107, San Antonio, TX 78232
Taking a step back from San Antonio’s food scene, we have A New Day Pediatric Psychology. This psychologist’s office is helmed by Dr. Ann-Louise T. Lockhart, PsyD, who is board-certified in child-adolescent psychology. She’s owned and operated A New Day since 2016, and the office has grown to include seven other employees, from billing to counseling, who all want to help children’s mental health.
When people think about Black-owned businesses, they often default to restaurants, but A New Day is a good reminder that we should all expand our scopes.
5. Trices Restaurant
Address: 7600 Eckhert Rd #3, San Antonio, TX 78240
We’ve established that San Antonio has some phenomenal Black-owned businesses in the baking and soul food sectors, but our beautiful riverside city is also home to stellar West African fare. Enter Trices Restaurant, where chef-owner Elsie Glasu-Atunuwa brings unique flavor combinations to the masses.
On the menu, you’ll find Nigerian Jollof Rice, honey beans served with fried plantains, soups made from fish and bitter leaf, meat pies, and more. You also have the opportunity to have a great time after eating at Trices Restaurant, as the eatery has a lounge area that includes a pool table and hookah for those who want to unwind and hang out with friends at the end of the day.

7. The Jerk Shack
Address: 10234 TX-151, Suite 103, San Antonio, TX 78251
Chef Nicola Blaque and her husband, Cornelius Massey, opened The Jerk Shack in 2016, and it’s become a staple in the San Antonio food scene since, thanks to the duo’s bold flavors and indulgent portions.
Blaque prepares each plate with love, and the food tells a full story. Your options here include curry chicken, chopped jerk pork, yams cooked with brown sugar and orange, shrimp and grits, and so much more. Don’t skip dessert, either; the banana pudding and rum raisin brownie here are to die for.
Like Tony G’s, catering is an option here, so don’t sleep on your chance to feed the guests at your next party the most delicious Caribbean food in the city.

She utilizes the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum to achieve this, and the school takes on students of all levels, so there’s never a bad time to start.
Outside of traditional ballet, the San Antonio Ballet School offers flamenco, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and more as recreational classes. There are even baby-and-me classes!
