The word “turkey” has a fairly impressive range of uses. In bowling, tossing three strikes in a row is a turkey. You might also refer to a failed event or experiment as a turkey. Calling someone a turkey as an insult is no good; doing so might even be a crime in Turkey.
Of course, the most popular reference to turkey is the bird, the centerpiece of many a Thanksgiving meal. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, several local businesses serve turkeys, mouth-watering sides, and desserts that will have guests complimenting the chef.
Here are some of our favorite spots providing Thanksgiving meals to DFW residents and visitors alike.
1. Local Foods Kitchen

Local Foods Kitchen founder Katie Schma retired in August, but the foundation she set in place allows for a bounty of flavor. That’s in full force on the kitchen’s Thanksgiving menu. Choose from hickory smoked whole turkeys, oven-roasted turkey breast, and maple smoked ham, then pair it with the Everything But the Bird option and indulge in a truly fabulous feast. If that’s not enough, Local Foods has some fun appetizers and sweets, including Baked Brie with Honey Walnut Apricot, Caramel Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Texas Whiskey Chocolate Pecan Pie.

The family pack has something for everyone—though we won’t tell if you want to hog a certain dish all to yourself.

Even though pancakes are in the name, you won’t find any in the Ol’ South Pancake House Thanksgiving selection. That doesn’t mean you won’t be well-fed. The shop offers a family meal for four people that includes three pounds of sliced herb-roasted turkey, cornbread dressing, gravy, fresh cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and two sides. Our picks are the Candied Brown Sugar Yams and the Spiced Caramelized Brussels Sprouts, but you do you. Dining alone? Try the single plate option, which gets you all of the above in solo servings, plus a drink and a slice of pie.

The Thanksgiving Dinner from Roy Pope Grocery claims to be 0% hassle and 100% homemade. I don’t know about you, but that’s my ideal percentage of hassle. The dinner is packed with Thanksgiving All-Stars, including turkey, cornbread stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and dinner rolls. If you’re not a fan of something on that list, you can also pick and choose individual items to add to your order.
7. Lili’s Bistro on Magnolia

The Turkey Dinner Package at Lili’s Bistro comes with roasted turkey breast, gravy, rolls, and three sides. All the classics are here, as well as a Gouda Creamed Corn Pudding that, as its name implies, is quite gouda. It’d be silly to host Thanksgiving without dessert, so adding on the Peach-Pecan-Pumpkin Cheese Cake or the Orange-Pecan Chocolate Torte is in your best interest. And if the thought of doing dishes and preparing another feast Friday morning sounds like a nightmare, Lili’s Breakfast Package is a take on migas with potato casserole and cut fruit. Easy peasy.
8. Eatzi’s Market & Bakery

Want full creative control over your Thanksgiving menu? Eatzi’s is the way to go. You can order a la carte to your heart’s content, and Eatzi’s also provides reheating instructions should you get home and wonder what to do with all the food you just bought. The appetizers are creative, with Fig & Almond Baked Brie and Spinach & Crab Dip leading the way. The sides are more traditional, though items like Mustard Parmesan Cauliflower and Sautéed Mushrooms with Pearl Onions will have guests oohing and ahhing at your variety. We’d recommend the Orange Bourbon Vanilla Glazed Ham ($39.99) as your choice of meat, but if you decide to truly go all out, Eatzi’s offers a $369.99 smoked Wagyu prime rib roast.

This year, you can chow down on five seasonal pies, including the Buttercream Gang, Drunken Nut, Smooth Operator, and our two top choices: the Lord of the Pies (ten apples soft-baked into caramel and topped with cinnamon streusel) and Drop Dead Gourdgeous, a pumpkin pie with a gingerbread crust.

Most classic Thanksgiving dishes are either meat-heavy—like turkey and ham—or highly cheesy, such as potato casserole and mac and cheese. Thanksgiving dinners aren’t always cheap, especially for larger groups of people. Per the American Farm Bureau Federation, the average cost of a Thanksgiving meal last year was $61.17. If your financial situation is tight, Tarrant Area Food Bank distributes turkeys and other ingredients for free across individual Fort Worth food pantries and mobile distribution events. There are also volunteer opportunities to help give back during the holiday season.
