A Fort Worth Public Library card will give you free access to youth and adult workshops, learning resources, and entry to museums among other things.
Fort Worth has 20 different library locations accessible to anyone from the community. Library cards are free for residents, non-resident students in pre-k-12, educators, CFW employees, and TexShare visitors. Non-residents can get a card for $50 a year.
Applications can be filled online or by visiting a library location. Residency can be verified with a Texas Driver’s License, Texas state-issued identification card, lease agreement, vehicle registration, utility bill dated within the last 30 days, or Texas vehicle insurance card.
Check out video games
There is a selection of more than 1,500 video game titles available to browse for systems like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. Some popular titles released this year are also available for checkout.
Borrow an instrument
The FWPL has 18 different instruments available for checkout and is continuously adding new instruments to its inventory. They can be checked out for three weeks and renewed again if there is no waitlist. Some of those instruments include the banjo, ukulele, electric guitar, and kalimba.
Get connected with a WiFi hotspot
Hotspot devices are available for checkout for three weeks to adults and young adults.
Fort Worth Botanical Garden passes
The Fort Worth Botanical Garden offers free admission and special story time admissions, as well. For a physical pass, you can visit your local library or get a digital pass on your library’s site.
Nature Center passes
The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge offers free general admission with your library card. You can visit your local library or get a digital pass through the Libby app.
Log Cabin Village passes
Fort Worth’s Log Cabin Village is a fun history museum for families to visit. Free admission passes can be reserved online or at your local library.
Free music with Amplify 817
Amplify 817 is a commercial-free music streaming platform that features Fort Worth musicians. There are also listening options for children of all ages.
Research your family history
The FWPL has a large genealogy database that can be accessed online. If interested, another option available to use is your library’s edition of Ancestry.com.
The learning never stops
It is never too late to learn something new; With the FWPL’s LinkedIn Learning account, you can access thousands of courses in multiple languages. There are also other learning programs available to explore.
Access the Libby app
The Libby app allows you to borrow e-books and audiobooks from the FWPL. You have access to them on your phone, tablet, or computer.
Check out backyard games
There are nine different types of backyard game kits available for checkout, which include stacking towers, pickleball equipment, and lacrosse sticks.
Launchpad college program
High school students get free help with college applications and counseling through this service. Students are able to meet one-on-one with mentors virtually or in person.
Educational kits for children
Depending on the child’s interests, there are animal-based, phonics-related, and STEAM-based kits available for checkout.
