Attorney for ICE detainees who were with Araujo demands immediate release

ICE agents involved in Tuesday’s deadly East End operation weren’t wearing body cameras and there’s no dash cam of the shooting, according to Rep. Sylvia Garcia. She says ICE confirmed only about 30 percent of agents nationwide have body cams and that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was not the intended target. Attorney Hugo Balderas-Ibarra represents two of the three detainees arrested with Araujo and is calling for their release, warning deportation would erase key witnesses. He says ICE shootings have climbed to at least 38 since January 2025, resulting in nine deaths, and argues the agency has a pattern of claiming vehicles were used as weapons. His clients say no agent ever stood in front of the car or was in danger.
