Christian Menefee: ‘The Trump administration is lying about ICE.’

An ICE agent killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston’s Magnolia Park on July 7, and no body camera footage exists, according to the agency. In a newly released statement from the Department of Homeland Security, the agency claims ICE weren’t wearing body cameras because of government shutdowns. That is a “lie,” says Congressman Christian Menefee (D-TX-18). The Trump administration received $75 billion in surge funding last year—enough to recruit agents, buy vehicles, and ramp up enforcement operations nationwide. Democrats were the only members of Congress who fought to require body cameras for all ICE officers, he says, and when the Trump administration tried to cut its own body camera budget from $20 million to $5 million, Democrats pushed back.
