This morning at City Hall, Houston City Controller Chris Hollins warned the city has already burned through half its savings in just two years and is heading into a third without learning from past mistakes. He says the new budget drains the water fund beyond what it can handle, shifting water dollars to trash collection and public safety instead of reinvesting in critical water infrastructure. In addition, as it stands right now, the city’s budget deficit is more than $180 million dollars.
