A New York state lawmaker says Texans’ shorter life expectancy is costing New Yorkers money through their life insurance premiums—and he’s introducing legislation to change how insurers calculate rates.
Texas has the highest uninsured rate of any state, and life expectancy here is, by some estimates, nearly four years shorter than New York’s. The bill, called the TEXAS Act, would require insurers operating in New York to use state-specific mortality data instead of national averages.
