On Friday, I asked you what you thought about billboards in parks. Dallas is considering adding them to generate an extra $10 million—a drop in the bucket toward the city’s debt. I worry about how ads, which have already infiltrated so much of our lives, would disturb the peace and beauty of a park. Here’s what y’all said.
Tyger S. “No, parks should not be cluttered up with billboards. We have enough of that along the highways, so much so that we can’t see beyond them. Parks need to be recreation only.”
Catherine J. “Parks are respites from the noise, lights, traffic, and concrete overload. A billboard would surely detract from the serenity and beauty.”
Kelly A. “It will probably be those babbling ones like at the gas pumps. Just what we need – more ads! Maybe they’ll encourage our children to ask for stuff or show us food and drinks while we’re exercising. If all the studies we read are correct that being outdoors is good for us in myriad ways, what will billboards do for us?”
