Morning y’all 🌅
It looks like Barack Obama has tapped into Texas politics once again. Obama, along with Senate candidate James Talarico and gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa, showed up at taco Tuesday together in Austin this week. The former president introduced his posse to diners as the state’s “next governor and senator,” although no formal statement of endorsement has been released.
This taco Tuesday soft launch of support is such a Texas way to endorse a candidate. Some other Lone Star-level endorsement options could include:
☑️ Running behind your preferred candidate and then showering them with ice from a nondescript cooler
☑️ Pulling up to the candidate’s rally, mid-speech, in a jumping low-rider, blasting one of the region’s favorite songs
☑️ A social media video where one talks about ideal values and then throws a football at the candidate they’re backing, and the candidate catches it perfectly in a completely different clip
☑️ The statement rolls across the LED facade Dallas’ Omni Hotel, or better yet, is hung from the iconic Coors Lite billboard off of I-35. (I know, Ken Paxton would totally sue.)
Will we see Obama full on campaigning for these candidates? I don’t know, but I do think we’ll see press releases officially backing the Democratic duo very soon.
