Good morning y’all,
If you’re in Dallas today, make sure you avoid the Victory Park area, as the American Airlines Center is hosting the GOP convention, and supporters and protesters will be in the area for the next two days. Tomorrow, I’ll be hitting the streets to talk to folks, so don’t miss your Friday newsletter where I’ll share any interesting findings with you. Until then, you can always check here for event basics.
Also, I want to shout out DFW reader Chelsea for her contribution to the billboards-in-Dallas-parks conversation. She reminded me that electronic billboards could not only be a vibe disruptor, but also throw off birds who are migrating through our area at night.
In my statewide newsletter, Farm to Market Texas, I shared an article about the beginning of birds’ fall migration south and where to see them in flight. To help them get where they need to go, we should reduce outdoor artificial light as much as we can. Porch lights and yes, billboard lights disorient our feathered friends. City of Dallas, are you listening? There’s reason number 517 why these billboards may not be the best move for the city.
