The best of the culinary scene gathered in Houston Oct. 28 to find out what Texas restaurants would be receiving a Michelin star, along with other honors. This is the second year Texas has hosted a Michelin ceremony.
Three restaurants across the state can now advertise that they are newly one-star Michelin restaurants: Isidore in San Antonio; Nicosi in San Antonio; and Mamani in Dallas.
“A Michelin Star is awarded to restaurants offering outstanding cooking,” the website states. “We take into account five universal criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, the mastery of techniques, the personality of the chef as expressed through their cuisine and, just as importantly, consistency both across the entire menu and over time.”
Eight new restaurants in Texas joined the Bib Gourmand list, which means they offer high-quality food at a great price value:
- Annam: 811 Buffalo Park Drive, Ste. 120, Houston
- ChòpnBlọk: 507 Westheimer Road, Houston
- da Gama canteen: 600 N. Shepherd Drive, Ste. 520, Houston
- Maximo: 6119 Edloe St., West University Place
- Papalo Taqueria: 712 Main St., Houston
- Mercade Sin Nombre: 408 N. Pleasant Valley Road, Austin
- Parish Barbecue: 3220 Manor Road, Austin
- Mezquite: 221 Newell Ave., San Antonio
Other awards were handed out at the ceremony, including:
- Service Award: Elliot Wood, Credence, Houston
- Green Star Award: Isidore, San Antonio and Nixta Taqueria, Austin
- Young Chef Award: Chuck Charnichart, Barbs B Q, Lockhart
- Sommelier Award: Celia Pellegrini, Este & Suerte, Austin
- Cocktail Award: Chas Martin, Mister Charles, Dallas
Many of the restaurants awarded took to social media to express their excitement over the newly bestowed honors.
“What an incredible honor,” newly-starred restaurant Nicosi said on Instagram. “Thank you @michelinguide for recognizing our team with their first ⭐️. Of course, we’re going to celebrate with copious amounts of desserts!”
