Ted Cruz doesn’t have the character to lead Texas forward. That’s why I’m among the Republicans endorsing Colin Allred.
The choice facing Texans in this year’s Senate race is crystal clear. It’s time to turn the page on Ted Cruz.
I am a proud resident of Hurst and I served Tarrant County for over 25 years, including 16 years as county judge. I am also a lifelong Republican.
As we saw on the debate stage on Oct. 15, Cruz is more focused on his own personal and political ambitions than serving Texas.
Cruz was the lead architect in trying to overthrow the election results on Jan. 6. When Texans froze during Winter Storm Uri, he jetted off to Cancún for a beach vacation and left his constituents to fend for themselves. When it came time to stand up for our state’s 1.6 million veterans exposed to toxic burn pits and help pass the single-biggest expansion of veterans’ benefits since the GI Bill, Cruz helped delay the bill — then fist bumped his colleagues to celebrate.
Those aren’t Texas values. Those aren’t Republican values. Those are the values of someone who only cares about himself.
Cruz has had 12 years in the Senate with nothing to show for it. He’s been given every opportunity to secure the border, join efforts to grow high-tech chip manufacturing and lower costs to ease inflation. Those are priorities for Republicans and Democrats alike.
That’s why I am proud to support Colin Allred for Senate this November.
Allred is a fourth-generation Texan. He was a leader on his football teams and a leader who works with both parties in Congress. He’s a Christian, a parent, and — yes — he’s a good man.
Allred has served North Texas with distinction, focusing on the issues that matter most: securing our border, growing our economy, lowering costs for Texas families and ensuring we keep our promise to our veterans. He pushes back on the Democrats when they’re wrong, and he stops both parties from taking things too far. That’s why he’s often ranked one of the most bipartisan people in all of Congress.
We don’t agree on everything. That’s okay — most Texans I know remember that, before politics went crazy, that’s how it used to be. We had leaders in both parties who’d stand up for what’s right, stand up for our constitution, and stand up for the rule of law. I know that’s the kind of senator Allred will be.
In almost three decades of public service, I have learned that leadership is about character and who shows up when it counts. While Cruz only looks out for himself, Allred would never abandon our state when things got tough. Most of all, I know he will always put Texas first.
I’ll let you in on something else I know. I know that I am not the only Republican who feels this way. Many people in my party are ready to turn the page on Cruz. This year, I believe we’re seeing Republicans and Democrats alike hoping that Cruz will bring that rolling suitcase back out and leave Washington for good.
I’ve joined Allred’s campaign for a simple reason. There’s room for people like me. I’m a proud Republican, but I’m also a proud Texan. We think for ourselves and we speak the truth — and the truth is that Allred has the character to lead our state forward. Cruz doesn’t.
I hope you will join me in working to elect a senator we can trust, who will always have our backs, and who has the experience and values to make Texas proud. That’s Colin Allred.
