Houston leaders have unveiled a new $48 million initiative aimed at reducing homelessness across the region. The three-year program, Pathways 2 Independence, builds on the region’s existing homelessness response efforts through The Way Home and will provide more flexible funding to help people quickly regain housing stability. Since 2012, more than 35,400 people have been housed through The Way Home, according to the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County. Nearly 95% remain housed and do not return to homelessness within two years.
