A first grader’s homework assignment became a deciding factor in one Houston dad’s vote this November. Zachary Nunn found an assignment in his child’s backpack asking students to compare the “good citizenship” of Sam Houston, who enslaved people, with civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Changes to HISD’s curriculum are one reason Nunn is voting Democrat in this year’s midterm elections.
