Morning DFW,
There’s been a ton of tough headlines lately, particularly involving safety and immigration enforcement, and it’s hard to know what to do with all that energy, sadness, and rage. On Tuesday, I asked y’all how you were feeling about recent ICE deportation efforts, and many of you said you wanted strong immigration enforcement but felt recent agency actions had gone too far. I wanted to share a few actions you could take if you don’t like what you’ve been seeing across the country.
1. Get out and protest. There’s an anti-ICE protest happening tonight at Dallas City Hall at 7 p.m.
2. Tomorrow there’s a national shutdown to support the people of Minnesota—no work, no school, no shopping.
3. Saturday, there’ll be ICE Out Everywhere protests around the country. The closest one to us, as of now, is in Austin, but spreading the word is a great way to support if you can’t make it to Austin.
4. You can tell your lawmakers to vote “no” for Friday’s Department of Homeland Security vote. This social media creator shared excellent tips for what to say to your senators and representatives to demand justice for those killed in Minnesota.
5. Know your rights and help make sure others do too. I recently interviewed a Texas immigration attorney who shared helpful tips on what to do in different scenarios involving ICE agents and how you can best protect yourself. We’ve been sharing those videos all week. Here’s one to check out now.
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a good place to start. I’ll share more ideas and resources as they come. Keep your heads up, folks.
