You might have received a fundraising email from us yesterday regarding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s (CPB) dissolution following federal cuts passed by Republicans.
In the email, we incorrectly stated the number of public stations closing. While the CPB did provide funding for more than 1,500 locally-run radio and television stations across the US, that does not mean all of those stations are closing.
The error came from fundraising messaging, not our reporting, and we regret the confusion it caused. Accuracy and trust matter to us, and we appreciate readers who hold us accountable.
We regret the error.

What’s giving you hope in 2026?

“A good outcome at the midterm elections this year. I won’t say which ‘side,’ just hoping for a better future for my brothers’ grandkids and great-grands. When tyranny becomes law, resistance becomes duty (that’s all I’m gonna say about that).” — Dianne J.
“People being nice to others. I’m a flight attendant and almost every flight I witness people helping people in one way or another. It’s a heart-warming site to see.” — Christie W.
“Donald J. Trump is president.” — Lou M.
“To find peace and stay out of politics.” — Laurieann T.
“Thousands of people coming out to protest!” — Jeni U.
“Not anything. Houston has become a murder capital and shooting haven. I moved here in 2021 and regret it every day. If I could move back to where I used to live, I would in a heartbeat. I don’t watch the news any more. It’s all bad.” — Wanda W.
“The fact that many people are beginning to realize what an ill-chosen president we have. He is totally useless.” — H W.
