- A permit is not required to carry a concealed handgun in public
- From 1966-2025, there were 237 school shootings in Texas

Beginning in 1995, the city of Houston has held two different parades on MLK Day. This year, though, one unified parade will take place. The MLK Grande Parade and the Black Heritage Society have worked together, alongside Mayor John Whitmire and the City of Houston, to plan the first-ever MLK Unity Parade, set to take place Jan. 19.
The event will honor the legacy, life, and accomplishments of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement.

The MLK Unity Parade is scheduled to begin at the intersection of Lamar and Smith streets downtown at 10 a.m. From there, it will travel down Smith Street and take a right onto Walker Street before turning right again onto Milam Street. The route then continues on Pease and Louisiana Streets before eventually turning down Clay Street and then back onto Smith Street to reach its endpoint at the intersection of Dallas and Smith Streets.
