Before you can vote, you’ve gotta be registered! Texas residents can register in three ways, but first make sure you aren’t already registered. Note the key dates below so you don’t miss your chance to register and cast your ballot.

CHECKING YOUR REGISTRATION STATUS:

We’ve made it easy to check your registration here, but you can also visit the Texas Secretary of State website to look up your registration status. You can search by general info like name and birth date. Vote.org also offers a 30-second search feature to confirm your registration status if you’re in a hurry.

To update your voter registration with a new address or name, hit this link and have your ID, Social Security, and voter ID numbers ready.

WHAT YOU NEED TO REGISTER:

The form will ask you for your Texas driver’s license or Texas ID number and will require an address. If you’ve moved to Texas, but have not switched your ID over, you’ll need to do that before you register

HOW AND WHERE TO REGISTER:

Not yet registered or need to update your existing registration? You’ve got time, but make sure to review the detailed deadline info below.

  • Online: To register online, fill out this form through the Texas Secretary of State. You will be asked to provide a valid Texas driver’s license number or Social Security number.

  • By mail: If you’d like to have a voter registration form mailed to you, fill out this online form and you will receive a paper application. You can then return the form via the paid postage envelope that’s included.

  • In-person: Alternatively, visit your local voter registrar to fill out an application on-site and return it immediately. Find your local voter registrar via this directory. Leading up to the election, you’ll see volunteers within your community registering people to vote on the street or maybe at an event. That is a great way to get registered, but still make sure to go online a few days later and confirm you are indeed registered.

THE DEADLINE:

All eligible voters must register by 30 days before Election Day per Texas law. For the 2024 general election, this means the last day to register is Monday, October 7, 2024.
