Protests have continued for 14 days as the movement demanding justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who was killed in an encounter with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, grows across Houston. Community members have held daily vigils, demonstrations, and benefit shows and organizers are now calling for a citywide action this Friday, urging people to “shut it down for Lorenzo.” They say that sustained public pressure has worked before, pointing to past community resistance that helped end Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota. Organizers are asking residents to join them throughout the week, culminating in a mass demonstration at Hidalgo Park in the East End on Friday at 6 p.m.
