September 15 through October 15, the nation celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, also known as Latino Heritage Month. Hispanic residents make up about 30 percent of the DFW population and 41 percent in Dallas County, so the influences of Latin traditions and leadership are essential to North Texas culture. There are many ways to celebrate this month — here are some ideas that serve as a good start.

The Dallas Museum of Art recently premiered a gallery showcasing legendary Hispanic artist Frida Kahlo. Frida: Beyond the Myth commemorates the 70th anniversary of Kahlo’s legacy and tells her life story through an exploration of her work. Cowgirl gallery

The National Cowgirl Museum in Fort Worth is featuring Soldaderas to Amazonas: Escaramuzas Charras, which examines the Mexican rodeo and the cowgirls that assisted in the revolt against oppressive Mexican government forces.
