🗣️ Good Morning North Texas,
The Dallas Stars may be chuckin’ the deuces to the Big D. If you don’t follow ice hockey, the Stars are a top team in the hockey world. They’re currently ranked No. 3 in the National Hockey League (a league that consists of several Canadian teams, ironically).
The team is valued at $2 billion—not bad for a city that really only knows ice in relation to January highway pileups. They’ve been a major player in making Dallas the sports city it’s become, and now the team is considering leaving its Downtown Dallas American Airlines Center location for less congested pastures—the suburbs.
The Rangers, Cowboys, and the Wings all play in Arlington, and the Dallas Mavericks have recently expressed their intention to leave Dallas and build their own arena in a neighboring city.
But some fans are concerned a move will dampen the energy of the fandom and make attending games less accessible for fans who rely on the DART to get downtown without the pain of traffic.
Does it matter to you if your teams move around?
I bet it matters to the city of Dallas, which is bound to lose money and an important piece of city culture. The Stars’ contract with American Airlines Center doesn’t expire until 2031, but I’m sure it won’t be long before the team announces its next move. Fans told The Dallas Morning News that all will be OK, as long as the team doesn’t move to Plano. 🤣 (What did Plano do?!)
