Ronaldo Salgado says ICE never identified themselves before fatally shooting his father

The family of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo says his death could have been avoided. Speaking publicly for the first time, his son, Ronaldo Salgado, said his father was in the process of obtaining a work permit and had already spoken with immigration attorneys about what to do if he was ever stopped by ICE. According to Ronaldo, his father knew he was supposed to comply and immediately contact his family and lawyers. Instead, Ronaldo says ICE agents approached in unmarked vehicles without identifying themselves, leading his father to believe he was fleeing criminals—not federal agents. ICE disputes that account, saying Salgado Araujo rammed an agency vehicle and drove toward officers, prompting an agent to open fire. The FBI is investigating the shooting, and the family is demanding the release of body camera footage, dash camera video, dispatch logs, and other evidence.
